Having at least 20 books in your home library has a significant impact on your child’s future and higher education. The more books, the greater the benefit. Begin with one book. Build as you go. Books do not need to be expensive and should be considered a lifetime investment. There are a few simple ways to add to your library:
Thrift stores or yard sales: Check the condition of the books first. Do they have all their pages? No one wants to get to the end of a mystery to only be left with an even bigger one.
Online swap sites or in-person swap groups: Consider setting up a book swap with local mom’s groups or other families in the area.
Museums: If a new exhibit sparks an interest in your child, check your local museum for reading material in their gift shop.
Theme Parks and Amusement Parks: A book as a souvenir will last longer than a stuffed animal or a funnel cake.
Free Little Libraries: I’m sure you’ve seen them-the cute, colorful little books houses popping up all over your town. Those are your free little libraries.
